Why Biden will be a better President for America than Trump

As we all know, America’s election season is very consequential as the US is an extremely influential and important country in the world. In the year 2020, who they elect as their president affects the world as much as it affects the country. Donald Trump and Joe Biden, the Republican and Democratic nominees respectively, are polar opposites in their points of views. I personally feel Biden is the right candidate for America. Let me tell you why he is the only one who can fix this mess that America is in.

From a national health standpoint, Trump has been a terrible leader. Throughout the whole of 2020 he downplayed COVID-19, barely wore a mask himself and never motivated others to wear one, didn’t pay attention to scientific evidence and because of this, America lost over 235,000 lives. If Trump gets a second term, he won’t change his ways of thinking about this situation and more lives will be lost. Trump also wants to reopen all schools, all markets and the economy as soon as he can. This will only negatively affect the country and increase case numbers. Biden, on the other hand, has promoted wearing a mask and believes that it should be mandatory to wear one. He trusts scientists and wants to invest more money into vaccine research and increasing healthcare availability for coronavirus victims. He also wants schools to reopen, but while making sure it is safe for staff and students.

From an activism standpoint, Trump doesn’t represent progress. He has said that he wants America to have clean air and a clean country but has not done anything about it. In fact, he has done the opposite and has made things worse by withdrawing the US from the Paris climate accord and increasing oil and fossil fuel businesses in the US. Biden has proposed a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the main contributor to climate change, and get the US to be carbon neutral by 2035. He also plans on expanding electric car businesses and has made a promise to get back into the Paris Climate Accord if he is elected.

Trump also is very public with his racist, sexist and homophobic actions, although he claims to be none of these things. He has trampled over the centuries-worth social equality progress that has been made. He has not condemned white supremacists, he has repeatedly said he doesn’t support gay marriage and he has sexually assaulted women many times. On the other hand, Biden has chosen a Black and South Asian female running mate who represents the minds of Gen Z. Trump’s choice for vice president is a White man who agrees with Trump’s backward policies.

When it comes to healthcare, Trump wants to enact policies that make it more expensive and more difficult to afford. He is currently arguing with the Supreme Court to repealObamacare, the highly affordable healthcare insurance. He has spoken about having a different, cheaper service but no plans have been proved to exist. It is safe to assume that he has not made efforts to nor wants to acquire a plan for affordable healthcare. Joe Biden wants to expand Obamacare and improve its facilities by making it more affordable and easy to get.

In the matter of trade, Trump has imposed tariffs on countries that he believe don’t treat America fairly, specifically China. This didn’t help in improving relations with China. He also withdrew from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a massive trade agreement that involves companies around the Pacific Rim. Biden has said he will reconsider this decision and hopefully get involved with the agreement again. He has also said he wants to make deals with some of the countries that Trump severed relations with.

During the election we have seen the United States of America become less united. There is a clear divide between the republicans and the democrats. During the campaigning, Trump spread a lot of fake news and his posts were deleted by the app for being misinformation. He promoted the violence that his supporters were causing when they heard that ‘all the votes are not being counted’, which was a lie. He filed lawsuits when it was getting clearer that Biden was winning which did nothing but complicated the ballot counting process. Trump is a president who would be biased toward anyone who is not a supporter of him. He doesn’t represent America as a united country, he represents only the people who follow him and agree with him. Biden repeatedly and calmly rebutted Trump's court cases and statements and even after the commotion caused by Trump’s supporters, acted like a true leader and tried to bring unity to opposing parties and said he would be a president for America as a whole irrespective of who voted for him.

These are some of the reasons why Joe Biden is the best choice for president. His actions are the most reasonable and will help America, and the world, in its economic and social affairs. His leadership and open minded thinking is what will lead the world to be a better place.
