The Significance of the Great Conjunction

On December 21st 2020, a rare alignment between the planets Jupiter and Saturn occurred.

The Great Conjunction takes place every 20 years, every time Jupiter overtakes Saturn in its orbit. In astrology, a conjunction happens when two or more planets line up. From Earth, it seems as if the two planets are perfectly aligned together, and appears to be one big, bright planet. During the conjunction on the 21st, the planets were only separated by 0.1 degrees, which has not occurred since 1623.

However, it is important to note that 400 years ago, the conjunction would have been impossible to observe due to the planets being too close to the sun. Therefore, the last time a human could have observed the conjunction was in 1226. The next time the planets would appear less than 0.2 degrees apart from each other would be in 2080, in approximately 60 years. With that being said, the Great Conjunction this year was a rare sight and one of the most exciting events of the year for astronomers.

Despite the fact that it is extremely difficult to see stars in the city of Singapore due to the light pollution of the city, the alignment of Jupiter and Saturn was easily visible throughout the country. The stars shone brightly through the clouds present. The optimal time to have seen the conjunction would have been approximately 30 minutes after sunset.

So, why is the Great Conjunction significant for astrology believers?

The vibrations sent from cosmic sync-up will create a ripple effect in the world around us. Firstly, the conjunction would have brought us a cultural moment and change in “rule”. This is mostly corresponding to political shifts. Joe Biden’s recent victory proves the effect of alignment of the planets on events.

It is recommended to take advantage of the Great Conjunction this year. It is time to release old habits and create a new lifestyle for yourself. Being open to change will further guide you to make progress towards your long term goals. Jupiter’s nature and Saturn's structure work extremely well together to help you grasp goals. This whole year is an optimal time to push your limits and believe in your process to pursue your dreams.
