Many teenagers feel unpleasant from the looks of their skin, particularly to visible features such as acne and blackheads. In this article, we’ll be exploring some of the possible ways to maintain healthy skin that will boost your confidence.
Method 1: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle
Relax and be stress-free when you can
Stress has known to be the main cause of acne. Try carrying out some of these simple stress-relieving methods, such as yoga or meditation. If studying for a test stresses you out, take a short break - drink some water and relax, then get back.
Aim for at least 7 hours of sleep per day
Hormones that come out of our brain while we’re asleep such as melatonin can reduce stress. If the sleep cycle is disturbed or not enough sleep is achieved, your brain will experience more stress.
Hydrate your body
Water plays an important role in all bodily functions, and skin is no exception. Without proper hydration provided to your body, your skin may end up appearing dry and flaky, a good condition for bacteria to live in. Aim to drink 4~5 cups of water a day, or eat water-rich foods such as watermelon to hydrate your body.
Don’t use hot water to shower
A hot bath or a shower after a rough day may sound amazing, but the hot water can eventually dry your skin up and sometimes even cause harm to your skin. Try to use warm or cool water instead!
Don’t pop your pimples!!!
While it can be so tempting to pop that stuff, doing so will allow tons of bacteria from your hands to free-flow into the pore and worsen the matter.
Method 2: Using skincare products
Using sunblock
While sunlight is an effective source of Vitamin D, it also contains UVA rays which can irritate your skin and lead to blackheads or acne. Apply sunblock to your face if you know your face will be exposed to sunlight. Also, try wearing long-sleeved clothes and a hat to block sunlight.
Using moisturiser
Hydrating your skin can be done internally, but a bit of external hydration doesn’t harm anyone! Moisturisers can be applied to parts of your skin which will help it to be tangible and fresh.
Using cleansers to wash your face
Depending on what type of skin you have (oily, dry) choose an appropriate cleanser and attempt to wash your face at least once a day. Opening up the pores every day to cleanse out your skin is very important.
Method 3: Visit a dermatologist
If you have been suffering from skin related issues for a prolonged period of time and it has not gotten better, try consulting a dermatologist (skin-related doctor). What you may be needing is simply some medicine to control your hormones or treatments to effectively heal up your skin.
