One of the courses that I would like to pursue at university is hospitality management at Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne. As the name entails an unclear pathway for many individuals who aren’t aware of the field, the focus of the course lies beneath the ability to provide a service. Whether this means working in the service industry, such as a hotel, restaurant or any type of lodging facility, the horizons lie broader than that.
The Business Management Bachelor’s degree focuses on the managerial side of business, meaning that the practical sides are balanced out by the various other disciplines and areas of study that it covers. Since I currently undertake Business Management at higher level, I would believe that this particular university would suit my particular strengths. As I am fond of learning new languages, I believe that this would be a correct area of study that I would like to tap into. This means that I would be able to improve my French abilities as I currently undertake French B.
By spending a week at the Junior Academy that EHL offers, I was able to decide whether I would plan to apply to the school itself. Being able to undertake this opportunity allowed me to visualise certain passions that guided me to my decision. Although there are certainly other hotel schools that offer similar programs, I was excited by the one that EHL offers as the variety of cultures and languages that the student body encompassed was immense.
As the rigorous course only takes in a limited amount of students from around the world, I am worried about the application process which includes a selection day and a few interviews. Since I was able to attend the Junior Academy on the EHL campus, I was able to bypass one of the interviews as I met with an admissions officer while I was there. This week doesn’t increase the likelihood of being accepted, which is a given, as it would have provided me an unfair advantage over those who were unable to make it, regardless of the situation they were in. In fact, I believe that the sole reason I went was because I would’ve regretted not visiting or spending time on campus if I was to consider this career path later in life.
Currently, I am starting the digital application process, meaning that the transition between high school and university is nearing. This idea of it being the last year at school really made me think about savouring and treasuring each individual moment. While this sounds cheesy to my peers and various other individuals in grades below me, they will understand this feeling at some point in their school career.
In the end, having the opportunity to visit the university campus various times has aided in my decision to direct my application process. If I was never exposed to the fascinating campus in Lausanne, it would’ve been difficult for me to picture myself through the website that only demonstrates a few images concerning the life at EHL.
